Welcome to Denton. If you're here on a student visa attending UNT, TWU, or NCTC, the US healthcare system can feel confusing — different insurance, vaccine requirements, and forms in a second language. Here's a plain-English guide to getting it sorted.
Start with your school's requirements
Every university sets its own health rules. Check your school's international student office for what's required before classes start — commonly immunization records, TB screening, and proof of health insurance. Bring every health document you have from home, translated if possible.
Texas meningitis vaccine rule
Texas law requires entering college students under age 22 to show proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination (or a valid exemption) before enrolling. If you were vaccinated in your home country, bring the record — if it's incomplete, ask your school whether a titer test or repeat vaccination will satisfy the requirement.
TB screening
Many schools require TB screening for students arriving from countries where TB is common. We offer TB screening at our Denton clinic — call (940) 257-2002 to schedule.
Titer testing
Lost your vaccine records, or were vaccinated long ago? Titer testing is a blood test that checks whether you still carry immunity to diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, or hepatitis B. Schools often accept titer results in place of missing records.
Care with no US insurance
No American insurance yet? No problem. Our sick visits are $75 flat — the same price for everyone, with no surprise bills. You don't need US insurance to be seen.
